Moderno Trio is proud to present HE LOVED THE SOFT PORN OF THE CITY as part of the 16th annual New York International Fringe Festival – FringeNYC.  Moderno Trio’s debut concept album showcases new music inspired by collaboration with Danish composer Morten Skovgaard Danielson, an eccentric genius who, upon completing his magnum opus, died. The exciting, upbeat, and sensual show also features dance, film and complex lighting and stage design.  Part passion play, part psychedelic art rock opera, HE LOVED THE SOFT PORN OF THE CITY tells the story of a day in the life of Skovgaard while collaborating with Moderno Trio in the Catskills of New York.  Along with surrealist film, elliptical story telling and modern dance, the show draws inspiration from classical powerhouses such as Liszt and Beethoven and progressive modern bands like Nirvana and Pink Floyd.

“Ludwig van Beethoven + Kurt Cobain” – The songwriting team, Dr. Allan Von Schenkel and Kristen Williams, explored this fusion during their collaboration with composer Skovgaard and continued exploring it as they conceived HE LOVED THE SOFT PORN OF THE CITY.  Von Schenkel says, “Nothing was too crazy. We explored every idea.” The pieces are enhanced by the fiery, virtuosic drumming of James Wesley Edwards, who draws from his passion for African Soukous and jazz masters such as Elvin Jones and Tony Williams. Their show also exhibits the talents of other collaborating artists, including dancer Jennifer Lippens, photographer/filmmaker Andy Kainz, and artist Heather Levy. One of the best up and coming indie bands, their music is called “engaging” and “surprising, memorable and effective” by the Washington Post.

Moderno Trio is changing the indie scene forever with upbeat music that embraces classical technique, technology, modern sound, and a multimedia-filled live show. The music is intense, enjoyable, and is destined to make an intimate connection between listeners and the late Skovgaard.
